1/4cupapple cider vinegar or white vinegarWhite vinegar will yield a sharper tasting sauce.
1/2tspfreshly ground black pepper
Add vinegar and brown sugar to a saucepan on medium high heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
Add all remaining ingredients to the saucepan and bring to a boil.
Turn down heat to low and let sauce simmer for 50 minutes.
You can use this sauce as a base and add other spices and flavourings as you like, to suit your taste. As is, it makes a thick, spicy, sweet and tangy sauce that works perfectly on ribs, pork, brisket, meatloaf and burgers.
