Make a jar of za’atar and you will find yourself sprinkling it all over the place. It gives a nutty, herbal crunch to pita bread, hummus, baba ganoush, pan roasted chicken, salads…I’ve even sprinkled it on peanut butter and toast!

I’ve given the proportions that I like, but you can tweak the flavour to your own liking.

Make it! Za'atar

A blend of toasted sesame seeds, sumac, thyme and oregano to use as a seasoning on just about anything.

  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp sumac
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  1. Add sesame seeds to a pan on medium heat. Toast until golden.

  2. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

  3. Mix remaining ingredients together with the toasted sesame seeds and store in an air tight jar.
