Make a jar of za’atar and you will find yourself sprinkling it all over the place. It gives a nutty, herbal crunch to pita bread, hummus, baba ganoush, pan roasted chicken, salads…I’ve even sprinkled it on peanut butter and toast!
I’ve given the proportions that I like, but you can tweak the flavour to your own liking.
Make it! Za'atar
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 tbsp sumac
- 1 tbsp dried thyme
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp sea salt
- Add sesame seeds to a pan on medium heat. Toast until golden.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool.
- Mix remaining ingredients together with the toasted sesame seeds and store in an air tight jar.
